From Porto, the north Capital, to north... - SMT8 (Cedofeita)

Cedofeita is a very particular and interesting part of Porto. In a way it puts in evidence the transition between different times and periods of the city history. Cedofeita street it self has been, along the history, one of the main connections between Porto and other important places by the coast and the north, also the Santiago walks…Also what Porto emerged along Cedofeita street? find more about:

The importance of Cedofeita in perhaps the most important portuguese civil war: the liberal wars. The participation of Portugal in the IWW. Porto from the XIX century. The “Republic” and the first Porto public high schools. Where was the “Ferreiros” square and its importance as a transportation hub in the city and the region … among many other relevant aspects of Porto and Portugal history, culture, society and ecology.

A Porto already from the “Iron Age” - SMT2 (Sé)

Sé do Porto district can be, in several aspects, together with S.Nicolau, considered the place where Porto was actually born, and there we can find some of the oldest archeological findinds in concern to the city history. Therefore it´s just sort of impossible to get to know about Porto identitity without “diving” in the many narrow streets and secrets from Sé do Porto.

Find more about:

Why was the romanic style so important in the beginning of the portuguese nationality. The fleet going on the cruzades to Jerusalém that was conviced to stop in Lisbon to take the city from the moors. Into the Heart of Porto – SMT7 (Sto Ildefonso)

Although, in the historical point of view, Sto Ildefonso is not situated in the so called Historical Centre, it´s actually in a way the “heart” of the commercial and social centre of the “modern” Porto, with some of the most significant buildings and trade streets situated in its area.

find more about:

What happened to the previous “Town Hall” building? Who where the “Martires da Liberdade”? Why Bolhão market is called Bolhão market? Why Batalha Square is called “Batalha Square” … among many other relevant aspects of Porto and Portugal history, culture, society and ecology.

Tour Matosinhos – A Land of Fishermen and Sailors – SMT MTS

Matosinhos is a city since ever deeply connected to the sea. Known by its very authentic fishermen community, it´s a place with a lot to see and to get to know besides the coast and the beach it self. It´s still surprising how such an interesting place, so near from Porto, is still so much “out” of the touristic circuits.

Find more about:

What´s the real name of the “Anémona”sculpture, what´s a “mamarracho”, what was the former name of Matosinhos, the connection between Matosinhos and the portuguese land of opportunities in the XIX century:Brasil, the legend of the roman man that rided his horse into the sea, among many other relevant aspects of Matosinhos and Portugal history, culture, society and ecology.

Tour Around the Douro River and its secrets -SMT1 (S.Nicolau)

S.Nicolau is for sure one of the most ancient and historical districts from Porto historical centre. The narrow and some of the medieval streets from S.Nicolau tell a lot about Porto identity, developed in a very deep connection with the Douro River.
